Format of a formal application
A formal application to the headmaster or principal follows a fixed order. Getting the format right earns easy marks in the exam:
- Date — the date on the left.
- To — the recipient, e.g. “The Headmaster”, the school name and address.
- Subject — a short line stating the purpose of the application.
- Salutation — “Sir” or “Madam”.
- Body — one or two short paragraphs stating your request politely with the reason.
- Closing — “I remain, Sir, your obedient student”, then your name, class and roll.
