What is the GMAT?
The GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) is the admission test built specifically for MBA and business master's programmes. It is run by GMAC and accepted by thousands of business schools worldwide — a strong GMAT score is often the single biggest lever an applicant can pull.
The current version is the GMAT Focus Edition, a shorter, redesigned test of about 2 hours 15 minutes with three equally weighted sections: Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning and Data Insights. You can bookmark questions and edit a limited number of answers within each section. Scores are valid for five years.

Frequently asked questions
The redesigned, shorter GMAT (~2h 15m) with Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning and Data Insights. It removed Sentence Correction and geometry, moved Data Sufficiency into Data Insights, counts all three sections, and lets you bookmark and edit some answers.
Most business schools accept both. The GMAT is business-focused (with Data Insights); the GRE is more general and useful if you might also apply to non-business programmes. Check each school's policy.
