How to write it

• Write the date, then the To-block: "The Headmaster", the school name and address.
• Give the subject in one line: "Application for setting up a common room."
• As the application is on behalf of the students, use "we" and explain that students have no place to rest or play indoor games during breaks.
• Request a common room with indoor games, newspapers and seating for leisure periods.
• Close respectfully and sign as "the students of ..." with the class name.

With due respect, we, the students of your school, beg to state that we have no common room in our school. During the tiffin period and other breaks, we have no suitable place to sit, rest or spend our leisure time. As a result, many students loiter here and there and waste their valuable time.

A common room would give us a place to relax, read newspapers and magazines, and play indoor games such as carrom, chess and table tennis. It would refresh our minds, keep us within the school premises and help build friendship and discipline among us.

We, therefore, pray and hope that you would kindly arrange a common room for the students and oblige us thereby.
