Dialogue About a Book Fair

Model dialogue between two friends planning a visit to a book fair.

Two friends discuss what a book fair is like, what it costs and when to go.

A dialogue between Sadia and Priya

Sadia: Priya, are you going to the book fair this weekend?

Priya: I want to, but I have never been. Is it worth the journey?

Sadia: It is the best month of the year for me. Sixty or seventy stalls, and everything discounted.

Priya: Do they only sell new books?

Sadia: Mostly new, but the publishers bring out their year's list then, so you see things you will not find in a shop.

Priya: What do you usually buy?

Sadia: Novels and poetry, and one book on something I know nothing about. That is my rule.

Priya: That is a good rule. Is it very crowded?

Sadia: In the evenings, yes. Go in the afternoon on a working day if you want to look at anything properly.

Priya: I have only about five hundred taka to spend.

Sadia: That is enough for three or four books at fair prices. And there is no charge to walk around.

Priya: Is there anything besides stalls?

Sadia: Yes — poetry readings, and a discussion on children's writing this year.

Priya: Then I will come. Shall we go together on Friday afternoon?

Sadia: Let us meet at the gate at three. Bring a bag; you will need one.
