Haste Makes Waste — Completing Story

Model completing story “Haste Makes Waste” with moral — SSC & HSC.

A completing story showing that doing things in a hurry without care leads to loss and failure.

The story begins: Rahim was a clever but impatient boy. He always wanted to finish everything quickly, and this bad habit often landed him in trouble.

The Story

Rahim was a student of class eight. He was quite intelligent, but he had one great fault. He was always in a hurry and never did anything with care.

One day his teacher gave the class an important assignment. It was to be submitted the next morning, and neat, correct work would earn full marks.

Rahim's friends began their work early in the evening. They wrote slowly and checked each line. But Rahim kept playing and putting off the task.

Late at night he suddenly remembered the assignment. In a great hurry he opened his book and started to write as fast as he could.

Because of his haste, he made many spelling mistakes and skipped several answers. His handwriting became so untidy that it could hardly be read. In his rush he even upset the ink pot, and the ink spread over the whole page.

Seeing the spoiled paper, Rahim had to start all over again. By then it was very late, and he was too tired to do good work. He finished a careless copy and went to bed.

The next day the teacher looked at his messy assignment and was very displeased. Rahim received the lowest marks in the class, while his patient friends were praised.

Rahim felt ashamed and sorry. He realised that his hurry had ruined everything and wasted his time and effort.

From that day he decided never to rush his work again. He learned to do each task slowly, carefully and in proper time.

Moral: Haste makes waste.
