What changed this cycle
- This is the first full cycle in which Vanier and CGS-D are merged into a single programme.
- International students can apply for the first time, against up to 15% of each agency’s awards.
What this cycle pays
- CA$40,000 a year for three years — CA$120,000 in total
- The amount is not automatically tax-free — Canadian rules on scholarship income vary, so check before you budget
Questions about this cycle
No. Your research subject determines the single applicable council — CIHR for health, NSERC for natural sciences and engineering, SSHRC for social sciences and humanities. Applying to the wrong one can see you ruled out on administrative grounds.
