The biggest waste in BCS preparation is buying too many books. In practice, one reliable book per subject read repeatedly beats ten read once — and for several subjects the best book is still the NCTB textbook.

Notice that in half these rows the source is a school textbook. The base of the BCS syllabus really does sit in the secondary and higher-secondary books — and you can brush those up from our SSC and HSC sections.
Why the preliminary and written books differ
The preliminary needs compilations built for facts and fast recognition — question banks and MCQ books. The written exam needs material for analysis and writing: facts you can build paragraphs from, quotations, statistics and examples.
One book will not serve both stages. While preparing for the preliminary, keep a separate notebook for the written exam and collect statistics, quotations and examples in it.
Fewer books, more revision
- Settle on one book per subject and read it three times.
- Mark it on the first pass, note it on the second, and read only the notes on the third.
- Before buying another book, ask whether you have read the last one three times.
- Ten years of past BCS papers — the one “book” you cannot skip.
- Current affairs are never complete from a book — the daily newspaper is the real source.

Absolutely. Bangla grammar, maths, general science and ICT come largely from the Class 9–10 textbooks. Many candidates start with a guide and skip that base entirely.
