Bank Written-Exam Preparation

Focus writing, essays, translation and maths — tactics for every part of the bank written exam.

Bank Written-Exam Preparation

Many candidates clear the preliminary and then struggle with the written paper, because it is an entirely different exam. Recognising the right answer is enough in an MCQ; the written paper demands organised writing, within the time, and often in English.

The parts of the paper

PartWhat is askedTactic
Focus writingA short, factual, reasoned piece on a set topicIntroduction → two or three arguments with facts → conclusion
Essay or argumentAnalysis of an economic, banking or current topicGive both sides, then state your own position
TranslationBangla to English and English to BanglaTranslate the meaning of the sentence, not word by word
MathsArithmetic, interest, percentages and banking-related calculationsShow your steps — intermediate work carries marks

The content is almost always economics, banking and current affairs — so reading a business page daily is the single best preparation for this stage.

A structure for focus writing

  1. In the first two minutes, jot three points in the margin.
  2. Introduction: what the topic is and why it matters, in at most three sentences.
  3. Body: one paragraph per point, each with a fact or a statistic.
  4. Conclusion: your position and one recommendation, in two sentences.
  5. Keep your handwriting clean and leave space between paragraphs — presentation earns marks.

Preparing for translation and maths

  • Translate one newspaper paragraph from Bangla into English every day — the single most effective habit.
  • Keep a notebook of economic and banking terms — inflation, remittance, non-performing loans and so on.
  • In maths, concentrate on interest, percentages, ratio and profit and loss.
  • Practise against the clock: 200 marks in two hours is under 36 seconds a mark.
  • Hand-write at least ten full written model tests.
