Assistant teacher in a government primary school is one of the country’s largest single recruitments — thousands of posts at a time, in a permanent, pensionable government job. Competition is fierce, but the syllabus overlaps heavily with other job exams.
Eligibility and application
- Education: a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with the circular possibly setting a minimum class or GPA.
- The age limit is set in the circular and counted on a stated date.
- Applications are online, on the primary-education directorate’s designated Teletalk portal.
- You apply for posts in your own district, since seats are allocated district by district.
- Photo and signature sizes and the fee are in the circular, with the fee paid by Teletalk SMS.
Recruitment syllabuses, mark schemes, age limits and fees change from one circular to the next. Always cross-check against the current official circular before you apply.
The exam format
- A written paper — usually MCQ, drawn from Bangla, English, maths and general knowledge.
- Wrong answers are penalised, so guessing must be controlled.
- Those who pass are called to a viva, where certificates are verified.
- The final merit list combines the written and oral results.
- Those recommended complete the appointment process, including training.
How to prepare
- Lean into Bangla grammar — it appears consistently in primary recruitment.
- In maths, drill quick solutions to the basic arithmetic topics — percentage, profit and loss, ratio, averages.
- In English, keep parts of speech, tense and preposition rules memorised.
- In general knowledge, prioritise the Bangladesh section and current events.
- Solve five to eight years of past primary-recruitment papers — the pattern is fairly consistent.
