More is lost in the admission season to missed dates than to anything else — the application deadline, the admit-card window, the choice submission, the confirmation date. One missed date can waste a year of good preparation.
The timeline below starts on the day of your last HSC paper. The exact dates shift every year, so treat this as the sequence — and write each step’s real date from the circular into your own calendar.
The month-by-month sequence

Test dates can clash. Put every date on one calendar as soon as the circulars appear and check for conflicts — discovering one late leaves you no options.
The document checklist
- Original SSC and HSC marksheets, certificates and testimonial.
- SSC and HSC registration cards and admit cards.
- At least five attested photocopies of each.
- Recent passport- and stamp-size photographs (10–15 copies).
- A copy of your birth registration certificate or national ID.
- Quota documents — freedom fighter, tribal, disability — where applicable.
- Keep scans of everything in one folder and in the cloud.
Keep your originals together in one file, ready to carry through the season. Not finding a document on enrolment day trips up students every single year.
Budgeting for the season
- List every test you will apply to and add up the fees.
- Add travel and accommodation — a large share if any test is in another city.
- Budget separately for enrolment fees, which vary by university.
- Discuss the total with your family in advance and set the money aside.
- Keep a small allowance for documents, photos, printing and photocopies.
Frequently asked questions
Applications usually open a few weeks after the HSC results, with the tests over the following months. Counting from your last paper, that is typically four to six months.
As many as your eligibility and budget allow — four to six including the cluster is a good balance. Relying on a single test is the biggest risk you can take.
