Skill Development — Which Skills to Learn, and How

A certificate and a skill are not the same thing. Hundreds of thousands graduate in Bangladesh every year while employers complain they cannot find qualified candidates — that gap is a skills gap. The good news is that most in-demand skills can be learned at home, free, from the internet.

Which skills are in demand

AreaSkillsWhere it pays off
TechnologyWeb development, programming, data analytics, using AI toolsJobs, freelancing, your own product
Design and contentGraphic design, video editing, content writingFreelancing, agencies, your own channel
MarketingDigital marketing, SEO, social-media managementJobs and freelancing — steady demand
Office and languageExcel, Word, presentations, written and spoken EnglishIndispensable in almost any job
Soft skillsCommunication, time management, teamwork, problem solvingWhere promotion and leadership are decided

Skill with AI tools is no longer a separate profession — it is becoming part of every one. The designer, writer, marketer or programmer who can put these tools to work in their own craft is the one pulling ahead.

Five steps to learning a skill

  1. Choose one skill — trying three at once means finishing none.
  2. Follow one complete free course or roadmap through to the end without switching.
  3. Practise every day as you learn — watching videos is not learning.
  4. Build three to five projects of your own and collect them into a portfolio.
  5. Start with small jobs — the first low-paid one is the hardest, and it gets easier after that.

Where to learn free

  • Government programmes — free training from the ICT division and the department of youth development.
  • Courses on Muktopaath and other Bengali e-learning platforms.
  • Complete YouTube playlists — pick one structured course, not scattered videos.
  • Free courses and documentation on international platforms.
  • Short courses and certificates from the technical education board.

A warning: adverts promising a fortune in thirty days are almost always scams. Before paying for any course, verify the trainer’s actual work, past students’ experience and the institution’s registration.
