A strong result opens several routes to help with study costs. After SSC the two main ones are the education board’s scholarships (Talentpool and General) and the government stipend programme. Beyond those, colleges, banks, business groups and foundations also offer awards.
Board scholarships — Talentpool and General
Some time after results, the board publishes a merit-based scholarship list. There is no separate application — the board selects on the basis of the result itself.

Government stipends
- The government pays stipends to eligible students from low-income families at secondary and higher-secondary level.
- Applications normally go online through your institution.
- You must meet attendance and minimum-result conditions — poor attendance can stop the payment.
- The money is usually sent to the student’s or guardian’s mobile-banking or bank account.
Other scholarship opportunities
- College merit awards — a tuition discount at admission for a strong result.
- Bank and corporate education scholarships — usually advertised in newspapers and on websites.
- Foundation and community awards, especially for talented students from poor families.
- Support from government trusts and funds, including the education assistance trust.
Anyone asking for an advance payment or fee “for a scholarship” is running a scam — government and board scholarships never require money up front.
