Tuition is about ₩2–5 million per semester at national universities and ₩4–7 million at private ones depending on the major — roughly US$3,000–$8,000 a year. Living costs including a dormitory run about ₩600,000–₩1,000,000 a month. Most universities offer international students a 30–100% tuition scholarship, which cuts the real cost substantially.
You usually need to show about ₩20,000,000 (roughly US$15,000) in a bank account; some universities ask for US$20,000–$25,000. The exact figure is set by your university and the embassy, and a scholarship reduces the amount required.
No, it is not mandatory. Many Korean universities run fully English-taught (Global Track) programmes where IELTS 5.5–6.5 is enough. Korean-taught programmes usually require TOPIK level 3–4 (often level 4 at SNU, Yonsei and Korea University). Note that TOPIK level 3 is required for most off-campus part-time work.
