BCS Viva Preparation — The Final 200 Marks
বাংলায় পড়তে চাও? দেখো: বিসিএস ভাইভা প্রস্তুতি — ২০০ নম্বরের শেষ ধাপ
The BCS viva carries 200 marks and feeds straight into the final merit order — a weak viva can cost you your preferred cadre even after a strong written exam. It tests three things: depth in your own subject, awareness of the country and current affairs, and how you behave under pressure.
Where the questions come from
| Area | What to prepare |
|---|---|
| Your own degree subject | The fundamentals of your degree and their current applications — the deepest questions come here |
| Your home district | How it was named, its rivers, historic sites, famous figures and main economy |
| Bangladesh affairs | The constitution, the Liberation War, administrative structure and development indicators |
| Your preferred cadre | That cadre’s work and challenges, and why you want it |
| Current affairs | National and international events from the two or three months before the viva |
| Personal and situational questions | Your name, family, interests and “what would you do in this situation” questions |
The meaning of your own name, anything notable about your birthday, the basics of your district — these easy questions trip up the most candidates. Write out and rehearse them.
The documents you need
- Originals and attested photocopies of every certificate and marksheet.
- Your national ID and birth registration certificate.
- Citizenship and character certificates, where required.
- Quota documents if you are claiming one.
- A copy of your application, the admit card and your written result.
- Arrange everything in order in one file — hunting through papers in front of the panel leaves a poor impression.
The most damaging viva mistakes
- Inventing an answer — the panel catches it at once and your credibility goes.
- Stumbling on a basic question in your own subject — this costs the most marks.
- Overconfidence, or arguing with the panel.
- Making partisan comments on politically sensitive topics.
- Inappropriate dress and disorganised documents.
- Being unable to say anything about your own district.
Frequently asked questions
Most questions come from six areas: your degree subject, your home district, Bangladesh affairs, your preferred cadre, current affairs, and personal or situational questions.
The viva is out of 200 and counts directly towards the merit order. Scoring patterns differ between cycles, so there is no fixed benchmark — the aim is simply to maximise it alongside your written marks.
Clean, understated formal dress — a formal shirt and trousers for men, modest professional attire for women. Avoid anything flashy or attention-seeking.
