Dialogue About Your Aim in Life

Model dialogue between two friends about their aims in life — for SSC & HSC.

Two friends discuss what they want to become and where their ambitions came from.

A dialogue between Tanvir and Sabbir

Tanvir: Sabbir, you look thoughtful today. What is on your mind?

Sabbir: Our class teacher asked us to write about our aim in life, and I could not begin.

Tanvir: Have you never thought about what you want to become?

Sabbir: I have, but the answer keeps changing. Last year I wanted to be a pilot. Now I am not sure.

Tanvir: That is quite normal at our age. What subject do you enjoy most?

Sabbir: Biology, without doubt. I never get bored in that class.

Tanvir: Then medicine or research might suit you. Have you considered either?

Sabbir: I have thought about medicine, but the admission test frightens me. What about you?

Tanvir: I want to be an agricultural scientist. My grandfather lost half a crop to a disease nobody in the village could name, and I have not forgotten it.

Sabbir: That is a very definite reason. I wish mine were so clear.

Tanvir: A reason usually comes from something you have seen, not from a list of professions. Think about what has stayed with you.

Sabbir: Now that you say it, I remember a doctor at our upazila hospital who worked all night without losing his patience.

Tanvir: There is your beginning. Write about him, and the aim will follow.

Sabbir: Thank you, Tanvir. You have made a difficult composition much easier.
