Students in Cumilla face an extra question every year that students in many cities do not: study in Dhaka, or stay here. The highway puts Dhaka close and relatives there are more likely, so the pull is a real one.
One calculation usually gets left out of that decision. A large share of Dhaka’s strongest colleges run their own entrance tests, and being admitted mid-table among the Dhaka colleges available through the central application is often worse than a top Cumilla college — cheaper, family close by, and little difference in results.
Cumilla’s own roster is not small either. The district has over a hundred and fifty colleges, the city several established government ones, a separate commerce college and cantonment institutions — a shortage of options is not the problem here.

How to use this list
If you want colleges from both Dhaka and Cumilla on one list, think about the order. Putting a Dhaka college above means you go there if it selects you — there is no “I will think about it” after selection, because not confirming forfeits the seat and your Cumilla choices with it.
Do the arithmetic on cost first. Living in Dhaka costs far more than studying from home in Cumilla, and you carry it for two years. There is expense in preparing for university admission afterwards too — putting the two together usually clarifies the decision.
The Cumilla board covers six districts, and students from Brahmanbaria, Chandpur, Feni, Noakhali and Laxmipur also apply into the city. Pressure at the top city colleges is therefore greater than local competition alone would suggest — keep at least two safe choices on the list.

The 2026-27 admission policy was published on 24 August 2026, and applications open on 2 September 2026. A warning: many websites are still republishing last year's (2025-26) schedule as "2026-27" with only the year changed — those pages show applications opening in July, which is wrong for this cycle. Check the original notice on xiclassadmission.gov.bd before you apply.
