HSC preparation carries an extra challenge — university admission tests follow within months of the exam. So studying only for the board exam is not enough; you have to study in a way that serves both.
The two-year plan

Class 11 is where it is won or lost — without a foundation built that year, handling the 2nd Papers and admission prep together in Class 12 becomes nearly impossible.
Handling the board exam and admission tests together
- Read the textbook thoroughly — most admission-test questions come straight from textbook concepts.
- After each chapter, solve 20–30 MCQs alongside the board-style creative questions.
- Keep a separate “quick revision” notebook of formulas, definitions and reactions — that is what you will use before the admission tests.
- Pause admission prep during the board exam itself, then give it your full attention afterwards.
- Remember that most universities add your SSC and HSC GPA to the admission score — so the board result is itself the first step of admission.
Practical notebooks and marks
- In Science, each paper carries 25 practical marks — across four subjects and eight papers that is 200 marks.
- Update the lab notebook weekly rather than letting it pile up at year end.
- Every experiment needs six parts: principle, apparatus, procedure, observation table, calculation and precautions.
- Get graph scales and axis labels right — that is where most practical marks are lost.
- For the viva, memorise the objective and conclusion of each experiment.
The costliest mistakes at HSC
- Treating Class 11 as a year off — the single biggest mistake.
- Leaving the 2nd Papers to the last minute.
- Writing up the practical notebooks the week before the exam.
- Doing only admission-test MCQs and skipping written practice — your writing speed collapses.
- Neglecting Bangla and English even though together they carry 400 marks.
