What the syllabus covers
HSC 2027 runs on the full syllabus, so English covers all of the following:
- 1st Paper seen passage — MCQ, question answering, summary, flow chart
- 1st Paper unseen passage — information transfer, rearranging, cloze test
- 1st Paper writing: paragraph, email, graph or chart description, story writing
- 2nd Paper grammar: articles, prepositions, phrases, right form of verbs, tense
- 2nd Paper grammar: narration, voice, transformation, completing sentences, connectors
- 2nd Paper grammar: suffixes and prefixes, synonyms and antonyms, punctuation, modifiers
- 2nd Paper composition: application, formal and informal letters, report, paragraph, composition

How to score well in English
- One unseen passage and one grammar item a day improves both papers at once.
- Modifiers, connectors and completing sentences are where students lose the most marks — give them separate time.
- Keep your own template for composition introductions and conclusions.
A preparation routine that works
- Read the textbook chapter yourself first and get the core idea — starting with a guide book leaves the concept half-formed.
- After each chapter write a one-page note in your own words: definitions, formulas or key points, and an example.
- Solve that chapter’s creative and MCQ questions from past board papers, then check your answers.
- Reserve one day a week for revision only — skim every earlier chapter note.
- Sit at least one full timed model test a month, then work out exactly where you are losing marks.
