Understand what a question is probing and the answer builds itself.

Common Job Interview Questions and Answers

The best technique in an interview is not memorising answers but understanding what each question is probing. Once you see what the board wants to know, the answer moves in the right direction on its own.

The near-certain questions

QuestionWhat is really being asked
Tell us about yourselfWhether you can speak in an organised way
Why this postWhether you understand the job
Your weaknessWhether you can look at yourself honestly
Where do you see yourselfWhether you intend to stay
How do you handle pressureWhether you can give a real example

A simple frame for answering

These four steps work for almost any experience-based question and turn an answer from a story into a structure. A board’s time is short, and an organised answer always leaves a better impression than a long one.

  1. State the situation in one sentence.
  2. Say what your responsibility was.
  3. Say what you did.
  4. Close with what came of it.

Handling the weakness question

Saying you have no weakness tells a board you do not know yourself. Naming something disqualifying is equally unwise. The best route is a genuine but correctable weakness, paired with what you are doing about it — the answer then becomes evidence of self-awareness.

What damages the impression

  • Criticising a former employer or teacher.
  • Starting to answer before the question ends.
  • Recited answers — boards spot them easily.
  • Ending with "no questions from my side".
