Many students start hunting for suggestions in class 9, usually under the influence of an older sibling or a coaching centre. But a suggestion is a narrow tool, and reaching for it at this stage wastes time and builds the wrong habit as well.

What a suggestion actually does

A suggestion analyses past papers to show which chapters yield the most questions. It is, in other words, a revision order — a list of what to sharpen first. For someone who has not yet read the chapters even once, a revision order means nothing, because there is nothing yet to revise.

When it becomes useful

The habit it damages

Studying from a suggestion at this stage builds an expectation that someone else will decide what you read. Chapters not on the list never get read at all, and two years later the multiple-choice questions turn out to come from exactly those. The habit of working through a syllabus yourself needs building now, because it is what carries you through to the admission tests later.

What to spend this time on instead

• Making the base in mathematics and English solid.
• Writing a summary in your own words after each chapter.
• Keeping the practical notebook current.
• Collecting your errors in a notebook — in two years it is the most valuable thing you own.

No announcement on the 2028 syllabus or paper structure has been made; before it, no suggestion can have any basis.
