Eiffel Excellence Scholarship

One feature sets this French foreign-ministry programme apart from every other award here: the French institution submits the application, not you. So the work starts with the institution, not with the scholarship.

Overview

The Eiffel Excellence Scholarship is run by France’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and implemented by Campus France. It funds outstanding international students at master’s, engineering and doctoral level to study at French higher education institutions.

The process runs backwards from what most applicants expect, and missing that wastes a season: you cannot apply to Campus France directly. You must first approach a French university or grande école, ask about its internal Eiffel procedure, and let the institution put you forward to the ministry.

What the scholarship covers

  • A monthly allowance of €1,200 at master’s level
  • A monthly allowance of €2,100 at doctoral level
  • International and domestic travel costs
  • Health insurance, housing assistance and cultural activities
  • The direct backing of the French institution, since it is the body that nominated you

Eligibility

  • Not a French national; dual nationals holding French citizenship are generally excluded
  • Master’s applicants generally under 25, and doctoral applicants under 30
  • An outstanding academic record — the programme is explicitly merit-based
  • Selection through a French institution’s internal process, resulting in a nomination

How to apply

The step-by-step application process for the Eiffel Excellence Scholarship.

  1. 01.Identify French institutions

Build a list of universities and grandes écoles strong in your subject.

  2. 02.Ask about the internal procedure

Write to the international office and ask their Eiffel nomination rules and dates.

  3. 03.Apply for admission there

A nomination normally requires you to already be in the institution’s admissions pipeline.

  4. 04.The institution files with the ministry

If you clear the internal shortlist, the institution submits your name to Campus France.
