NL Scholarship — A Grant for Study in the Netherlands
Formerly the Holland Scholarship. Put honestly, this is a partial grant — €5,000 in the first year, received once. The rest of your costs need a separate plan.

Overview
The NL Scholarship — previously the Holland Scholarship — is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science together with participating Dutch institutions. It is for students from outside the European Economic Area, at both bachelor’s and master’s level.
Two points deserve to be stated plainly, because many sites skate over them. First, this is not a full tuition scholarship — it is €5,000, paid only in the first year and only once. Second, there is no single national deadline; each participating institution sets its own, typically somewhere between February and June.
What the scholarship covers
- A €5,000 grant in the first year, usable against your costs
- Applicable at both bachelor’s and master’s level
- In many cases combinable with an institution’s own separate awards
- A wide catalogue of English-taught programmes, where the Netherlands leads in Europe
Eligibility
- Nationality from outside the EEA — Bangladesh qualifies
- An application to a full-time bachelor’s or master’s at a participating Dutch institution
- Not having previously studied in the Netherlands
- Meeting the institution’s own language and academic requirements

Frequently asked questions
Not on its own, and it is worth saying so plainly. Non-EEA tuition is usually several times that figure, before living costs. Treat the NL Scholarship as one component that reduces the bill — realistic plans combine it with an institution’s own awards and part-time work.
