How to write it

• Write the date at the top-left, then the To-block: "The Headmaster", the school name and address.
• State the subject in one line: "Application for a seat in the school hostel."
• In the body, explain that your home is far away and travelling daily is difficult, so you need a seat in the hostel.
• Mention that hostel accommodation will let you study peacefully and attend classes regularly.
• Close politely and sign with your name, class, roll and section.

With due respect, I beg to state that I am a regular student of your school reading in Class IX. My village home is at Nabinagar, about forty kilometres away from the school, and there is no convenient transport for daily commuting. As a result, I often reach the class late and find it hard to continue my studies properly.

I have come to know that a few seats are still vacant in the school hostel. If I get a seat there, I shall be able to attend my classes regularly, study in a calm environment and take part in school activities without any difficulty.

I, therefore, pray and hope that you would kindly grant me a seat in the school hostel and oblige thereby.
