An application for remission of fine is written to the headmaster requesting that a fine (for late payment or absence) be excused.

How to write it

• Begin with the date, then the To-block: "The Headmaster", the school name and address.
• Write the subject in one line: "Application for remission of fine."
• In the body, explain honestly why you could not pay the fee or attend on time — usually a genuine family hardship.
• Politely request that the fine be excused, assuring that the lapse will not happen again.
• End with a courteous closing and your name, class, roll and section.

Sir

With due respect, I beg to state that I am a student of Class IX in your school. I could not pay my monthly tuition fees within the fixed date, and for this a fine of one hundred taka has been imposed on me. The delay was not intentional on my part.

My father is the only earning member of our family, and he was seriously ill for the last few weeks. Due to this sudden hardship, my family could not manage the fees in time. Paying the extra fine along with the arrears is now beyond our means.

I, therefore, pray and hope that you would kindly remit the fine imposed on me and allow me to pay only the due fees, and thus oblige.
