What the syllabus covers

HSC 2027 runs on the full syllabus, so Higher Mathematics covers all of the following:

  • 1st Paper: matrices and determinants, vectors, straight lines and circles
  • 1st Paper: permutations and combinations, trigonometric ratios and equations
  • 1st Paper: differentiation and integration (calculus)
  • 2nd Paper: real numbers and inequalities, linear programming, complex numbers
  • 2nd Paper: polynomials and polynomial equations, binomial expansion
  • 2nd Paper: conics, statics, motion of a particle in a plane, measures of dispersion and probability
  • Practical: the prescribed solution and graph notebook (25 marks per paper)

How to score well in Higher Mathematics

  • Do not just memorise calculus formulas — solve 15 differentiation and 15 integration problems a day.

A preparation routine that works

  5. Sit at least one full timed model test a month, then work out exactly where you are losing marks.
