Bangladesh Maritime University Admission 2026-27: Circular, Seats, Eligibility and Cost

Bangladesh Maritime University's (BMU) undergraduate circular for 2026-27 had not been published as of 26 September 2026. For the last two years it came in late October — 2025-26's on 23 October — with applications open for about a month. Be ready for it soon after the HSC 2026 result.

BMU is the country's only public maritime university. In 2025-26 it admitted 200 students — 40 in each of five programmes: oceanography, marine fisheries, naval architecture, maritime law and port management. Few seats make for fierce competition: about 18,000 applied for 200 seats in 2024-25, some 90 per seat.

Eligibility by faculty (per the 2025-26 circular)

In 2025-26, students with SSC 2022 or 2023 and HSC 2024 or 2025 could apply — BMU allows a second attempt, which DU does not. If the rule holds, the pass years move forward by one for 2026-27; confirm in the circular. The subject-grade condition is what rules out most applicants: a GPA that clears the bar still fails with a single "C".

O- and A-level candidates have their own conditions — for naval architecture, five O-level subjects including maths, physics and chemistry, and at least three A-levels including those three; more than two "C" grades disqualifies.

How the test works

Every faculty sits a 100-mark, 90-minute MCQ-only test, with 0.25 deducted per wrong answer. Merit is 70% MCQ, 20% HSC and 10% SSC — so a strong GPA carries more weight here than at DU. Only listed Casio calculator models (fx-991ES and similar) are allowed.

Maritime law and port management put 35–40 marks on English alone — both are open to any stream, which makes them a real opening for humanities or business students who are strong in English.

How far the waiting list moves

In 2025-26, after the merit and first waiting lists on 9 February, pre-registration called far more candidates than there were seats — up to rank 240 in Shipping and Maritime Governance, 340 in Engineering and 480 in Earth & Ocean Science, against 40 seats in each. Four more calls followed between March and June, the last on 30 June 2026.

The lesson: missing the first list is not the end. Check BMU's notice board regularly until at least June, and pay the BDT 5,000 pre-registration deposit on time — without it, you are not considered in later calls.

The cost of admission (2025-26)

The admission figure includes the BDT 5,000 pre-registration deposit. Tuition is BDT 200 per credit and exams BDT 250 per course — the whole degree costs under BDT 100,000, less than a single semester at most private universities. The application fee was BDT 800 per faculty.
