National University (Honours) Admission Guide
বাংলায় পড়তে চাও? দেখো: জাতীয় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় (অনার্স) ভর্তি গাইড
The National University is Bangladesh’s largest, with thousands of affiliated government and private colleges across the country. Its great advantage for honours admission is that there is usually no entrance test — the merit list is built from your SSC and HSC GPA.
For students who miss out at the public universities it is the biggest and most affordable alternative, costing far less than a private university.
The essentials

Mark distributions, eligibility rules and fees are revised almost every year. Always cross-check against the current official circular from the university or admission committee before you apply.
How the release slip works
- A GPA-based merit list is published first; if selected you enrol at the allotted college.
- If you are not placed, you submit fresh college and subject preferences on a “release slip” form.
- A release slip usually lets you list several colleges, and places are allotted against vacant seats.
- Release slips run over several rounds, so missing out once does not end your chances.
- Each round’s deadlines are strict — miss one and you lose that whole round.
Choosing a college and subject
- The larger, older government colleges — typically the main college in a district town — tend to offer better teaching and opportunities.
- Choosing a college near home cuts living costs sharply.
- Choose your subject on interest and plan — your honours subject shapes your master’s and your job field.
- Build a realistic list for your GPA — listing only famous colleges risks getting nothing.
- Alongside honours, build English, computer and professional skills — they put you well ahead after graduation.
