Admission Results, Merit Lists and Waiting Lists

An admission result is not like a board result. Passing is not enough — seats are limited, so your position in the merit order decides everything. And missing the first list does not end it: the waiting list can still come through, so you must follow the process to the end.
How to check the result
- Go to the relevant admission website and open the result option.
- Enter your roll or application number and the other details required.
- Many universities also send the result by SMS — the format is in the circular.
- The cluster and medical publish merit lists as PDFs — find your roll number in them.
- Note both your score and your merit position — the position is what decides your chance.
How merit and waiting lists work
A merit list is published first, sized to the available seats. Seats of those who do not confirm within the deadline fall vacant, and candidates from the waiting list are called against them.
Admission therefore runs in several rounds, and candidates well down the waiting list often get in during the later ones — so do not give up just because your name is not on the first list.
The biggest mistake is failing to confirm within the deadline after your name appears — the seat is lost and cannot be recovered.
What enrolment requires
- Your original SSC and HSC marksheets, certificates and testimonial.
- Copies of your SSC and HSC registration cards.
- Your admission-test admit card and a copy of the result.
- Several recent passport-size photographs.
- A copy of your birth registration or national ID, plus quota documents if applicable.
- The prescribed admission fee, usually paid at a bank or online.
If your name is not on the list
- Find the dates of the later waiting-list rounds and keep checking.
- Check the results of the other universities and the cluster too — a place may be waiting there.
- Do not miss the deadlines for National University honours and the private universities.
- Check whether a second attempt is possible and decide accordingly.
- Enrolling somewhere is the safest move — you can still change course if something better comes along.
Frequently asked questions
Good — a substantial number of seats fall vacant every year because students who get several offers take only one. As admission runs over several rounds, candidates well down the list often get in.
The window is usually very short — a few days — with the date and time stated in the notice. Miss it and the seat is cancelled.
Many students temporarily confirm at two places, but ultimately you must study at one and release the other — and you may not get the full fee back, so decide carefully.
