Being selected and being admitted are not the same thing. There is a step in between — confirmation — and it is where more students lose their place than anywhere else in the process.
The idea is simple: within a few days of the result you have to say that you are taking the seat. If you do not, the system reads that as disinterest and gives the seat to someone else.
What confirmation actually is
Confirmation is a declaration — "I am taking this seat." It is not the same as enrolling at the college, and it does not require the full admission fee. It happens online, against a set board fee.
Importantly, confirming does not lock you into that college. Migration stays active afterwards, so if a seat opens higher on your list you can still move up to it.

What happens if you do not
Your selection is cancelled, the seat is released into the next phase, and you have to apply afresh. There is no guarantee the college that selected you will still have a seat by then.
The mistake is almost always accidental, and the reasons repeat: waiting on an SMS, sitting out because the college was not the one you wanted, or assuming the deadline will be extended.
- Skipping it because the college was not your first choice — which forfeits migration too.
- Waiting for an SMS that never arrives.
- Trying in the last hour of the last day and getting stuck behind the server.
