Admission-Test Mark Distribution — Where the Marks Are

Preparing without knowing the mark scheme means spending time in the wrong place. Your final score combines two things — your test marks and marks derived from your SSC and HSC GPA. You cannot change the second any more, so the first is where the effort must go.

The GST cluster mark scheme

The cluster test is 100 MCQs for 100 marks in one hour, with a pass mark of 30. The subject split differs by unit.

UnitSubjects and marks
A — SciencePhysics 25, Chemistry 25, Biology or Higher Maths 25, fourth subject or Bangla-English 25
B — HumanitiesBangla 35, English 35, General Knowledge 30
C — Business StudiesBangla 15, English 15, Business Organisation & Management 35, Accounting 35

For the final cluster merit list a portion of your SSC and HSC GPA is added to the test score; the circular states the weighting.

The medical and dental mark scheme

A medical admission score is the sum of two parts — a 100-mark MCQ test and marks derived from your SSC and HSC GPA.

  • The MCQ split: Biology 30, Chemistry 25, Physics 20, English 15, General Knowledge 10.
  • Each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks — four wrong answers lose one mark.
  • Scoring below 40 in the MCQ keeps you out of the merit list entirely.
  • The general-knowledge section leans on the history of Bangladesh and the Liberation War.

Because of negative marking, guessing is expensive in the medical test — if you are unsure, leave it. The total and the GPA multipliers have been revised in some years, so check the current circular.

Agricultural cluster and engineering schemes

  • Agricultural cluster: a 100-mark MCQ across English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics, with 0.25 deducted per wrong answer.
  • BUET: two stages — a pre-selection MCQ, then a final written test for those who clear it.
  • CKRUET (CUET, KUET, RUET): one combined test, with an extra freehand-drawing paper for architecture.
  • Dhaka University: 60 MCQ plus 40 written, with 20 further marks from your SSC and HSC GPA.

Mark distributions, eligibility rules and fees are revised almost every year. Always cross-check against the current official circular from the university or admission committee before you apply.

Turning the mark scheme into priorities

  1. Give the most time to the highest-weighted subject — Biology for medical, Accounting and Management for cluster Unit C.
  2. Find out whether the test has negative marking, and set your guessing policy accordingly.
  3. Work out how many marks your GPA contributes, so you know what you actually need on the day.
  4. Where there is a written paper (DU, BUET), practise writing by hand — MCQ drills alone are not enough.
