Physics is the most important science subject and the backbone of engineering and medical admission tests.

What the syllabus covers

HSC 2027 runs on the full syllabus, so Physics covers all of the following:

  • 1st Paper: vectors, kinematics, Newtonian mechanics
  • 1st Paper: work, energy and power, gravitation, properties of matter
  • 1st Paper: periodic motion, ideal gases and thermodynamics
  • 2nd Paper: thermodynamics, static and current electricity, magnetic effects of current
  • 2nd Paper: waves and sound, physical optics
  • 2nd Paper: modern physics, atomic and nuclear physics, semiconductors and electronics
  • Practical: prescribed experiments, graphs and lab notebook (25 marks per paper)

How to score well in Physics

  • Keep every chapter’s formulas on one sheet and solve at least ten numerical problems a day.
  • In the practical, get graph scales and axis labels right — that is where most marks are deducted.
  • With admission tests in mind, give extra time to kinematics in Paper 1 and electricity in Paper 2.

A preparation routine that works

  1. Read the textbook chapter yourself first and get the core idea — starting with a guide book leaves the concept half-formed.
  2. After each chapter write a one-page note in your own words: definitions, formulas or key points, and an example.
  3. Solve that chapter’s creative and MCQ questions from past board papers, then check your answers.
  4. Reserve one day a week for revision only — skim every earlier chapter note.
  5. Sit at least one full timed model test a month, then work out exactly where you are losing marks.
